- Download your e-Aadhaar from myAadhaar or DigiLocker, or photograph the card. The PDF is locked with the first four letters of your name in capitals and your birth year; type both and the tool fills the password in.
- Leave the masking on: every Aadhaar number printed on the page is covered except its last four digits, the way UIDAI's own masked download does it.
- Type what the copy is for, or tap one of the stamps. It's printed across every page, so a copy handed to a landlord can't be reused for a SIM or a loan without the words showing.
- Pick the size limit the upload asks for (200 KB suits most rent, KYC and booking uploads) and download. The preview shows the first page so you can check the number.
Questions
Is a masked Aadhaar accepted as ID?+
UIDAI offers the masked version itself, as a download option on myAadhaar, and in 2022 advised people to use it instead of a full photocopy because a photocopy “can be misused”. It shows your name, photo, address and date of birth; only the first eight digits are hidden. A bank or office that needs the full number for e-KYC can take it by OTP or the QR code rather than from a copy.

Didn't UIDAI withdraw the advice not to share photocopies?+
The 27 May 2022 press release was withdrawn two days later by the Ministry of Electronics and IT, which said it could be misinterpreted and that holders should “exercise normal prudence”. The masked download stayed, and the reasoning stands: a copy that shows the full number can be reused, a masked and stamped one can't be reused quietly.
Why a stamp as well as masking?+
Masking stops the number being copied out; the stamp stops the whole page being passed off as a copy you gave for something else. If it ever turns up where it shouldn't, the words say where it came from.
Can a landlord, hotel or employer verify a masked copy?+
Yes, through the QR code, which stays on the copy. It carries your name, photo and address, digitally signed by UIDAI, and the mAadhaar app or UIDAI's QR scanner checks the signature; the number itself isn't needed for that.
What's the e-Aadhaar password?+
The first four letters of your name as printed on the Aadhaar, in capitals, followed by your year of birth: for Suresh Kumar born in 1990, SURE1990.
Does my Aadhaar leave my device?+
No. The PDF is opened, masked, stamped and rebuilt in your browser, with nothing sent to Sochen. There is no account and no log.
