Compress a PDF to under 500 KB.

500 KB is the bank and railway certificate limit: two pages at full sharpness, or eight plain ones. Drop the PDF in, and the tool redraws each page smaller until it's under the limit, then checks it. Nothing is uploaded.

Who asks for 500 KB

For the 300 KB and 400 KB limits above, pick “Under 300 KB” in the tool; the 500 KB preset is for IBPS-style limits.

What 500 KB looks like

  • Two or three pages come out at 200 DPI, the sharpest the tool draws: indistinguishable from a good scan.
  • Four dense pages fit without dropping below 120 DPI (483 KB in our test of a four-page form with tables), so small print stays readable. Around eight typed pages fit at 85 to 100 DPI; beyond ten, split.
  • Colour survives at this size for short documents, so a certificate with a coloured seal can stay in colour. Tick grey for anything over four pages.
  • The check counts 1,000 bytes to the KB, the stricter reading, so a 1,024-byte portal accepts the same file.

Every page is redrawn as a JPEG at the sharpest DPI that fits, from 200 down to 72, so the file is only as small as it has to be. The tool tells you the DPI it settled on when it goes below 120.

If it won't go that small

  • A 20-page statement under 500 KB is 25 KB a page, which is below what a dense page needs even at 72 DPI. Split it, or export it again from the bank's site as a smaller date range.
  • If the original is a PDF of phone photos, the tool redraws them anyway; what matters is even light and a flat page, not the megapixels.
  • Scanned in colour at 600 DPI? That's ten times the bytes you need. 200 DPI greyscale is the sweet spot for documents.
  • If it still won't fit, the tool tells you the smallest it could make, so you can see how many pages to drop.

Photos of documents rather than a PDF? The images-to-PDF tool makes one PDF under the same limits, and an Aadhaar goes through the safe Aadhaar copy tool, which masks the number as well.

Questions

IBPS wants an A4 PDF. Does the tool keep A4?+
Yes. Each page keeps its paper size; only the dots per inch change. If your scan was a phone photo at a different ratio, the page is that photo's ratio, so scan or crop to A4 first if the portal is strict.
Can I merge two certificates into one PDF under 500 KB?+
Not here; this tool compresses one PDF. The images-to-PDF tool takes several photos or images and makes one PDF under a size. For two PDFs, compress each on its own.
Does it keep the text selectable?+
No. The pages are redrawn as images to hit the size. If you need the text, the image-to-text tool reads it back.
Is the PDF uploaded?+
No. It's opened and redrawn in your browser, and the result stays on your device.
