Questions
How does it get the file under the size?+
It encodes the picture as a JPEG, measures it, and lowers the quality a step at a time until the file fits, with a little room to spare. With a width and height entered the pixels stay exactly as asked; left blank, the picture is shrunk until it fits at a quality that still looks good.
Can it make the file bigger, for a minimum size?+
Yes. Some forms want at least 10 or 20 KB. If the picture comes out under the minimum at full quality, the tool pads the file up to it without changing the picture, and tells you.
Which is better to enter, pixels or centimetres?+
Whatever the notice states. A size in centimetres needs a DPI (most notices say 200), and the tool works out the pixels from the two and writes that DPI into the JPEG.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?+
No. The file is resized in your browser and stays on your device; nothing is sent to Sochen or anyone else.
