Split a bill

Split a bill, with a UPI QR for everyone

Tell Sochen who had what, or send a photo of the bill: it splits GST, service charge and tip fairly, works out the fewest UPI payments to settle up, and makes a QR code for each one. Free, and the money goes straight from friend to friend.

7 days of Plus for $5, then a monthly plan if you want one. Nothing renews on its own.

Split this dinner bill. I paid ₹4,800; Kabir had the drinks. My UPI is riya@examplebank

Aarav

pays Riya ₹1,240

Meera

pays Riya ₹980

Kabir

pays Riya ₹1,580

Example. Tax, service charge and tip are split by what each person had. Scan with any UPI app.

How it works

  1. 1

    Say what happened

“Dinner for 4, ₹4,800, I paid, Kabir had the drinks”, or send the bill photo.
  2. 2

    Check the split

Each person's share, with tax, service and tip spread by what they had.
  3. 3

    Share the QR codes

One QR and upi:// link per payment. Send them on WhatsApp; each friend pays in their own UPI app.

What people use it for

  • Restaurant bills

Shared starters, separate mains, one person's drinks: split by item, not just equally.
  • Trips

A group for the trip: hotel, cabs and meals as they happen, settled at the end with the fewest payments.
  • Flatmates

Rent, electricity, groceries and the maid, tracked month by month.
  • Getting paid by anyone

A UPI payment request with the amount and note filled in, for a client or a customer, as a QR or a link.

Questions

Is it free?+
Yes. Splitting a bill and making the UPI QR codes costs no credits. Reading a bill photo uses a little of the model, like any chat.
Does Sochen hold or move the money?+
Never. Each QR code and upi:// link opens the payer's own UPI app with the payee's UPI ID, the amount and a note filled in; they confirm, and the money goes straight to the payee. Sochen never sends collect requests.
How are tax, service charge and tip split?+
By what each person had, not equally: someone who had the drinks pays their share of the tax and service on the drinks.
Can it read a bill photo?+
Yes. Send the photo and say who was there; Sochen reads the items and asks who had what if it isn't clear.
What about a trip or a flat, with many bills over time?+
Make a group: add expenses as they happen, and Sochen keeps a running tab of who owes whom, with UPI QR codes to settle up.
Are there UPI fees?+
Person-to-person UPI payments have no fees.
